Outdoor Recreation

Sunny skies and an abundance of outdoor activities make Sunny Arizona the outdoor capital of Arizona. Start with a day of golf at one of the area's top golf courses such as Ocotillo in Chandler or Las Sendas in Mesa. The greens are superb and the scenery is amazing. In fact, Arizona's first golf resort, the San Marcos, is located in downtown Chandler. If you enjoy water sports, then look no further than Sunny Arizona. Tempe Town Lake offers kayak, paddle boat and electric boat rentals. It is a perfect setting for a family picnic or a sail around the lake. Further east, sun lovers flock to Canyon Lake, Saguaro Lake and Apache Lake for a day of boating and skiing amongst the sheer desert cliffs. The more serene activity of 'tubing' can be found on the Salt River which invites fun seekers to take a smooth ride down the river. If hiking is more your speed, then Sunny Arizona is full of options for adventure. Papago Park, adjacent to the Mill Avenue District, provides a leisurely walk through the desert to explore ancient archeological sites from Native American civilizations that called the Salt River Valley home hundreds of years ago. For a more challenging hike, you can explore the Santan Mountains to the south or the infamous Superstition Mountain Wilderness Area to the east. The legend of lost gold draws hikers from around the world who seek out the mythical Lost Dutchman's Mine, but instead find a glorious array of desert plant life and scenery that is unmatched in the world.
